In addition to being a composer, Oluwaloba (Loba) Salami is an upcoming author of the fantasy novel: The Midnight Kingdom. His experience in crafting narratives translates heavily into his musical compositions, where each piece can nearly explain the entire narrative without a single word spoken.
Symphony No. I
'The Mysterious Murder of Mary-Anne Marie'
While music for the big screen is my prime focus, writing programmatic music for the orchestra is always rewarding. The symphonies of Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, and Korsakov's 'Scheherazade' are what seduced me into the world of music, so the symphony has a special place in my heart.
The Mysterious Murder takes place in 1875 New York. Mary-Anne Marie (represented by the violin), the last child, and only girl, to the multibillionaire Marshall Marie was just found dead in the Marie Manor, which starts the beginning of movement I. The NYPD open an investigation, but fail to find the suspect, causing public outrage since the Maries had a positive public image. The case is handed to The Detective (represented by the cello), a young man who was exceptional despite only graduating from Cornell a year ago. He speaks to Mary-Anne's father (represented by the bassoon), who's in prison for tax evasion, understanding the history of the Marie's before moving the case forward.
Currently, only movement I is finished. The entire story follows the rest of the three movements, and will be composed once the piece is locked for a performance by an orchestra.
Here are the highlights of Loba Salami's portfolio. From pirates to cowboys and knights to wizards, his extremely programmatic style plunges listeners straight into the story. For all available projects and their descriptions, visit the compositions page for more.
